This guide covers everything you need to know: styles, materials, interior planning, pricing, and how to choose the right maker.
What Are Fitted Wardrobes?
Why are our Wardrobes Different
A fitted wardrobe is a bespoke storage unit built specifically for your room — made to your exact ceiling height, wall width, and floor dimensions. Unlike a freestanding or a ‘modular build’ custom wardrobe, bought from a national fitted furniture brand, our fitted wardrobe are designed for the precise space it will occupy.
The difference this makes is significant.
A well designed fitted wardrobe uses space that a ‘modular design’ wardrobe wastes — gaps and awkward corners, the uneven wall behind. Because it is built to the specific size of your room, rather than to the best fit made using standard sized units. A bespoke designed fitted wardrobe feels like part of the architecture of the room.
Wardrobe Styles
Any design style can work in your space if it’s executed thoughtfully. For example, you might blend contemporary elements into a Victorian home, or opt for a Modern Shaker style—versatile enough to complement virtually any interior. see our full breakdown of styles for what suits period and contemporary properties.
Shaker
Wardrobes
The most versatile style. Works in Victorian terraces, 1930s semis, new builds. Classic recessed panel door.
Victorian
Wardrobes
Raised panel doors, ogee cornicing, classical mouldings. Designed for pre-1914 homes
Contemporary Wardrobes
Flat-panel doors, push-to-open, high-gloss or matte finishes. Perfect for new builds homes
Alcove
Wardrobes
Wardrobes designed for Victorian and Edwardian chimney breast alcoves. looks completely original
Perfect Integration: What is Scribing?
Many homes across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire have beautifully uneven walls, settled floors, and ceilings that have moved over decades or centuries. Standard modular furniture leave visible gaps at every junction with the wall — gaps that less experienced installers mask with silicone joints that discolour and crack over time.
We scribe every panel to the exact profile of the surface it meets. Rather than filling gaps after the fact, our installers cut each panel edge to follow the precise contours of your plasterwork, skirting boards, and ceiling — sealing every junction completely. The result is furniture that looks as though it was built as part of the original property.

Built to Measure in Our Oxfordshire Workshop
We design our fitted wardrobes to fit your space exactly, build them in our Oxfordshire workshop, and usually install them in just one day to keep disruption to a minimum.
Unlike flat-pack wardrobes that compromise on quality and fit, every wardrobe we make uses full carcass construction. This means they are structurally sound, built to last for decades, and finished in whatever paint color you choose—from warm neutrals like Elephant’s Breath to dramatic, deep shades like Hague Blue.
We cover Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and the surrounding counties. All our wardrobes come with a full guarantee.

Fitted Wardrobes — Interior Options & Configurations
Most people underestimate the planning needed for the inside of a wardrobe. Getting this right from the start means your wardrobe will organise your life every day. The setup you choose — like long hanging space, double hanging rails, drawers, or shoe storage — determines how useful it is. That is why we always create a detailed drawing of the interior before we start making it.
How to divide the inside of your Fitted Wardrobe.
We offer the following choices for the inside of your wardrobe. Because every bedroom is different, we always plan the layout around the things you actually own and how you use your storage every day

- Pull-out accessories — trouser racks, tie drawers.
he choices for your made-to-measure wardrobe are practically endless. You can get the most out of your built-in wardrobe storage by using practical designs like hanging rails, or cubby shelving for jumpers and other large items.
We also offer pull-out trays for shoes and handbags to make getting to them effortless. Built-in drawers can replace a traditional chest of drawers entirely, or we can add specialised accessory drawers for items like belts.
Your bespoke fitted wardrobe can even include internal LED lighting to illuminate your clothes, so you never have to fumble around in the dark to get dressed. With our full customisation service, we will design the inside of your wardrobe to fit your exact needs.
How to Plan Your Wardrobe Interior
Start With a Clothing Audit
Before thinking about shelf positions or rail heights, take stock of what you own. How many long items — dresses, coats, suits — need full-length hanging? How many shorter items work on double hanging? Most people find they need more short hanging and less full-length rails than they think, and more drawer space than they expect once they realise it is available.
Long Hanging
A single rail running the full height of the wardrobe, typically 1,800 to 2,000mm from the floor to the rail. It is used for dresses, coats, and long suits. Because it takes up the most space, it is best to use this layout only where you genuinely need it for full-length clothes.
Double Hanging
Two rails stacked vertically, with each section roughly 900mm high. This doubles the hanging space for shirts, jackets, and folded trousers. It is the most space-efficient option for most people and the layout we recommend for the majority of wardrobe interiors.
Drawers
Internal wardrobe drawers on full-extension, soft-close runners can replace a chest of drawers entirely. You can use deep drawers for knitwear and bulky items, and shallow drawers for accessories, ties, and belts. We use Blum Tandem runners as standard — the same specification used in high-end kitchens.
Shoe Storage
Angled shoe shelves, pull-out shoe racks, or flat shelves with shoe boxes. Allow approximately 150mm per pair of flat shoes, 200mm for heeled shoes. A dedicated shoe section keeps the rest of the wardrobe cleaner and makes getting dressed significantly faster.
LED Lighting
Internal LED lighting transforms a wardrobe from a simple storage space into something genuinely enjoyable to use. We offer LED strip lighting on hanging rails and motion-activated lights that turn on automatically when you open the door. I
f you are investing in a quality fitted wardrobe, it is well worth including LED lighting right from the start.
Why Fitted Wardrobes Are One of the Smartest Bedroom Investments
A quality fitted wardrobe does far more than store your clothes; it changes how your bedroom feels. By building directly into the unique shape of your room, from floor to ceiling, it turns awkward alcoves and wasted corners into useful storage.
This completely clears away visual clutter, making even smaller bedrooms feel open, and spacious. Because they are crafted from durable materials, made for your exact needs, these wardrobes are built to last for decades. They are a practical, long-term investment that organises your daily life while adding genuine value to your home.

Built floor to ceiling and wall to wall, with recessed downlighting above casting a warm, even glow across the furniture — a master bedroom installation that feels well designed rather than assembled.
Fitted Wardrobes for Every Bedroom Type
We design and build fitted wardrobes for bedrooms of every size and shape across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. Here is what works best in each type of room.
Premium bespoke Shaker wardrobes custom-angled for a sloped ceiling wall
Master Bedrooms
The main bedroom wardrobe is usually our most ambitious project — and the most rewarding. A full wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling installation transforms a bedroom from a room that simply holds storage into a space that is well designed.
Placing wardrobes on either side of a central dressing table is one of our most popular setups. The dressing table becomes the main feature, perfectly framed by matching wardrobes on each side. In smaller main bedrooms, a single full-width run gives you the most storage possible without taking over the room.
Small Bedrooms & Box Rooms
A fitted wardrobe in a small bedroom requires careful planning but the results are the most dramatic. By going floor to ceiling and wall to wall, a fitted wardrobe in a small room provides lots of storage, much more than a freestanding wardrobe
Guest Bedrooms
A fitted wardrobe in a spare bedroom transforms the space from a cluttered storage room into a proper guest room. Simpler interior layouts work best here — a straightforward combination of hanging rails and shelves without the complex setup needed for a main bedroom wardrobe.
Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms almost always have alcoves on either side of the chimney breast. Fitting a pair of wardrobes into these spaces gives one of the most satisfying and timeless results in interior design.

Fitted Wardrobe Materials, Finishes, and Styles
What Are Fitted Wardrobes Made From?
The vast majority of our bespoke fitted wardrobes are made from a combination of high-quality materials. We use these together to create a stable, consistent structure that takes paint and lacquer perfectly, giving a smooth, flawless finish.
Other materials used in wardrobe construction include: solid Oak and other hardwoods, such as Poplar wood.; Wood board, marine ply for areas of higher moisture risk; laminate-faced board for internal carcasses where a Painted or lacquered finish is not required; and solid wood for decorative mouldings, cornices, and period detail work.

The Anatomy of a Bespoke Full-Carcass Wardrobe
When investing in fitted furniture, true quality is defined by what you cannot see from the outside. While mass-market modular wardrobes rely on open-backed frames, thin materials, and gaps hidden by silicone, our bespoke wardrobes are built from the ground up for lasting structural strength.

Why Full-Carcass Built-In Furniture Matters
Many fitted wardrobe companies attach front frames and door tracks directly to your bedroom plasterwork. Over time, seasonal movement causes walls to flex — leading to misaligned doors, sticking drawers, and dust ingress.
By building a complete, freestanding structural box and anchoring it to your room using precision scribing, we isolate the wardrobe from the natural movement of the house. The result is perfectly plumb lines, dust-sealed joints, and doors that operate flawlessly for decades.

How to Choose the Right Fitted Wardrobe Maker
Not all fitted furniture companies are equal, and a fitted wardrobe is too significant an investment to get wrong. Six questions worth asking before you commit.
Do They Build Full Carcass or Just the Doors?
Some companies supply and fit doors only — attaching them to a basic framework. Full carcass construction means the entire unit is structurally built, It is stronger, more precise, and lasts allot longer. All our wardrobes are full carcass as standard.
Is the Furniture Made in a Workshop or On Site?
We manufacture all furniture in our workshop — every carcass built, every piece spray-lacquered before it arrives at your home. On installation day our team scribe and fit everything precisely to your room. Most installations are completed in a single day with minimal disruption.
Who Does the Installation?
While larger bespoke companies rely on contract fitters to install your wardrobe, we use our own dedicated in-house team. This means you can be completely assured that the people who build your furniture are the ones installing it, ensuring we fit it right the first time.
What is the Paint or Lacquer Finish?
A sprayed lacquer finish applied in our workshop, is harder, more durable, than a brushed or rolled finish applied on site. Our lacquer finish is wipe-clean, consistent across every surface, and ready to use immediately after installation.
Do You Get a Design Drawing Before Committing?
You should see exactly what you are getting before anything is built. We provide detailed design drawings for every project — shelf positions, rail heights, internal layout, external appearance — so you can refine every detail/
What Does the Guarantee Cover?
A confident maker stands behind their work. We guarantee all our furniture fully — any issues with construction, fitting, or finish will be put right at no charge. Our lacquer finish is designed to last for many years with minimal care.
Frequently Asked Questions About Fitted Wardrobes
How long does a fitted wardrobe installation take?
Most fitted wardrobe installations are completed in a single day. We manufacture everything in our workshop beforehand so the wardrobe arrives ready to assemble. Larger installations may take two days.
Do fitted wardrobes add value to a house?
Yes. Quality bespoke fitted wardrobes in the master bedroom are widely regarded by estate agents as a value-adding feature that sets a property apart and attracts serious buyers.
What is the difference between hinged and sliding wardrobe doors?
Hinged doors swing outward and require clear floor space to open. Sliding doors run on a track and require no additional floor space, making them better for compact rooms.
What is the minimum depth for a fitted wardrobe?
The minimum internal depth for a wardrobe with hanging rails is 550mm. For shelving-only wardrobes, 400–500mm is sufficient. We measure your available depth precisely before designing anything.
Can you fit a wardrobe around a chimney breast or alcove?
Yes. Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms frequently have chimney breast alcoves. We design wardrobes to frame the chimney breast using the alcoves for the units. The result looks completely integrated into the original architecture.
Can fitted wardrobes be fitted in rooms with sloping ceilings?
Yes. Loft conversions are one of our specialisms. We design fitted storage that uses low sections under the slope for cupboards and the full-height sections for hanging.
Can fitted wardrobes be painted any colour?
Yes. We can pre-finish wardrobes in any colour from Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Dulux, Fired Earth, and more. We pre-lacquer in our workshop before installation.
How much do fitted wardrobes cost?
A single bay fitted wardrobe starts from around £2,500. A full wall-to-wall installation starts from £4,500. A pair of alcove wardrobes from £4,000. A full bedroom fit-out with dressing table from £6,500. We always provide a fixed quote before work begins.
