The Story
Built in Solutions started the way most good things do — with a decision to do something that mattered.
After taking voluntary redundancy, I used the payout to retrain as a cabinet maker. It was something I had always wanted to do — to work with my hands, to make things that were genuinely well made, to create furniture that transformed a room rather than just filled it. That was over twenty years ago. I have not looked back since.
What began as one person with a set of tools and a clear idea of what good furniture should be has grown into a small, focused workshop producing bespoke fitted furniture for homes across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and the surrounding counties. Every project is still approached the same way it was at the beginning — with care, with craft, and with the understanding that the furniture we make will be part of someone’s home for decades.

Our workshop sits in a converted cattle shed on a former working farm in Long Hanborough, West Oxfordshire — part of the Blenheim Palace estate, set in the kind of rural Oxfordshire countryside that makes the commute to work something to look forward to rather than endure.
The conversion was not straightforward. The original cattle shed had one completely open side sixteen metres long building — designed for livestock, not for cabinet making. We rewired it entirely, insulated it, fitted new doors and windows, and turned it into a properly equipped modern workshop capable of producing the quality of furniture our clients expect. Every bit of that work was done with our own hands. It is a place we are genuinely proud of.
The workshop is where everything is made. Every panel is cut here, every carcass assembled here, every door hung and adjusted here, every piece spray-lacquered in our finishing booth before it leaves for installation. Nothing is subcontracted. Nothing is shipped in pre-made. What leaves this workshop is what we built.

How We Work
I run and manage the business day to day — client visits, design consultations, project management, and installation. I am involved in every project from the first home visit through to the day the furniture goes in. That continuity matters. When you commission furniture from Built in Solutions, you are dealing with the same person throughout — not a salesperson who hands you to a designer who hands you to a fitter.
We are a small team by design. Two highly skilled craftspeople work in the workshop producing the furniture. Small means we can maintain the quality standards that larger operations cannot. Every piece gets the attention it deserves.

Why It Matters to Us
Twenty years of making furniture teaches you things that no training course can. It teaches you that the details nobody notices are the ones that make everything look right. That a piece of furniture that fits perfectly — scribed to the exact profile of an uneven Victorian wall, following the slope of a period ceiling, sitting flush against a stone floor — looks completely different from one that almost fits. That the quality of the lacquer finish, the smoothness of a drawer runner, the alignment of a door — these are not finishing touches. They are the work.
We make furniture because we love making furniture. The satisfaction of seeing a room transformed — an alcove that was empty for years now holding a pair of beautifully made cupboards, a box room that could not fit a desk now housing a complete fitted study — is why we do this. It has been why we have done this for over twenty years, and it is why we will still be doing it twenty years from now.
