Beaconsfield & Amersham – Fitted Alcove Cupboards

We are the cabinet maker of Choice

We can reclaim any unused area in your home and transform it into stunning storage area.

Amersham & Beaconsfield share a quiet character. They have period homes, modern houses, and plenty of chimney alcoves. Those recesses often sit empty, and are crying out for a storage solution that fits well with the décor of the the house

We are Built in Solutions. We make fitted cupboards for alcoves. Each one is measured, designed, and built for your specific alcove area.

The result is storage that looks as if it has always been there. We work across both towns – in Beaconsfield’s Old Town, in Amersham’s Old Town and on the Hill.

Our approach is calm and careful. No pressure. No hidden fees. Just good quality fitted furniture that makes the most of the space, and looks great.

Covering the towns of Amersham and Beaconsfield, all of our alcove cupboards are custom made to order in any style or colour. We also provide our own in-house alcove fitting service, carried out by our highly trained cabinet makers, allowing us to reclaim any unused area in your home and transform it into a stunning storage space.

Alcoves in Beaconsfield

Beaconsfield has a mix of Georgian, Victorian and modern homes. Many have chimney breasts that create natural alcoves.

We have built cupboards in Penn Road, Ledborough Lane, and the villages around. The most common request is a pair of living room cupboards – one for the television, one for books. We also fit wardrobes in bedroom alcoves.

Because each alcove is different, we measure carefully. We scribe the side panels to the wall. The finish is seamless. You will not see filler strips or uneven gaps.

Alcoves in Amersham

Amersham’s Old Town has lovely period cottages with shallow alcoves.

We build cupboards that respect the age of the property – simple shaker doors, matching skirting, a soft painted finish.

On Amersham Hill, the homes are often newer. There we can use handle-less doors or a contemporary style,  or stick with the classical Shaker style.

We have worked in Chesham Bois, Hyde Heath and Little Chalfont. Even alcoves in unusual spaces are not a problem.  We adapt any design to fit.

We also provide this service to our neighbours in High Wycombe and Marlow

We are a locally based, custom built‑in furniture company that specialises in creating elegant alcove furniture design solutions.

That’s not how we work. Every single piece of furniture we produce is handmade from the ground up, tailored to your exact specifications, and designed to complement the style of your home.

The nature of Alcoves Spaces in homes

Both Amersham and Beaconsfield feature a broad spectrum of architectural styles, from medieval times to the present day. Many of these older homes – particularly Victorian, Edwardian, Tudor, and Georgian properties – contain original alcoves, chimney breasts, and recessed wall spaces that are perfectly suited for bespoke fitted cupboards.

Alcove cupboards can be designed to fill these irregular sapces, turning awkward gaps into elegant storage for media units, shelving, or hidden cabinets.

Amersham dates back to the 8th century, with its historic Old Town known for timber‑framed Tudor buildings (15th–16th century). Victorian and Edwardian cottages emerged in areas like Long Park and Bois Lane.

The arrival of the Metropolitan Railway in 1892 spurred early 20th‑century growth in Amersham‑on‑the‑Hill, including Edwardian terraces (c.1906) and interwar housing estates (1920s–30s).

Striking modernist houses from the 1930s and post‑WWII prefabs (1947) also feature. In all these periods, alcove cupboards can be custom‑made to fit uneven wall measurements, something mass‑produced units cannot do as effectively.

Beaconsfield’s Old Town is a conservation area with Georgian, neo‑Georgian, and Tudor Revival buildings, plus Victorian properties like Victoria Cottages (1887) and Arts & Crafts homes from the early 20th century.

Modern townhouses and apartments from the 1950s onward also benefit from bespoke alcove storage, especially where open‑plan living creates recessed wall spaces.

Whether filling a chimney breast recess in a period cottage or adding sleek shelving in a new‑build flat, alcove cupboards maximise unused areas and enhance the character of any home.

Today, things look very different. We now work from a spacious, well‑equipped workshop filled with modern machinery—allowing us to create the finest bespoke furniture for your home.

Why a Fitted Alcove Cupboards Solution is the only choice In Amersham & Beaconsfield

In contrast to new‑build homes that follow a uniform blueprint, most properties across Amersham and Beaconsfield date back to earlier eras—1930s semis, post‑modernist designs from the 80s, plus older Victorian and Edwardian houses, along with Georgian period homes on select local streets. These were often constructed by different building crews.

What this means for you: even when you see a row of outwardly matching houses, the internal wall measurements and layouts are almost never the same. A standard, mass‑produced, off‑the‑shelf cupboard system with rigid dimensions simply won’t give you a great fit.

That’s why a made‑to‑measure alcove cupboard is really the only practical answer.

So, if you’re after media wall alcove inspiration, bespoke TV units for alcoves, or custom built‑in storage options, please get in touch. We’d love to show you how we can create the perfect fitted alcove cupboard solution for your home in Amersham or Beaconsfield and the surrounding villages.

Thanks to the wide variety of housing styles found across Amersham and Beaconsfield, alcove dimensions differ from one property to the next.

So even when you’re looking at a terrace of houses that appear identical from the outside, the internal wall widths and depths are almost guaranteed to vary.

Yes we are!

We are just down the road on the sleepy Oxfordshire border. So that definitely makes us your local cabinet maker.

Find us on Google Maps here

Yes, we make custom made to measure furniture that is designed to fit the space.

We do not use the common used method of making ‘bespoke’ furniture by stacking standard sized cabinets together to best fill the space, then filling the gaps up with filler panels.

Full Carcass construction

All our furniture is made fully lined, meaning you will get a fully enclosed cabinet/cupboard

All joined sections are applied with a front framework, covering any join or part.

A cheaper method that is used by others is to attach battens  to the walls. The ceiling and floor would be an integral part of the construction and would be seen when viewed inside, its essentially a cheaper way to make built-in furniture.

These are often made by on the job Carpenters, and some of the larger companies.

We can paint in any colour you like, and use paint from your preferred paint company, or alternatively in a extra hard lacquer.

Painting is carried out in our workshop before your furniture is installed in your home, meaning your furniture will be ready sooner with less disruption.

We construct your furniture in our fully equipped workshop, ready for installation.

This means we can control the quality of the manufacturing process using our dedicated machines.

Resulting in minimal disruption to you and your home.

Our fitting process takes a day or two at most , and your furniture is ready to use the day we finish.

Compare that to a company that works onsite. They will usually take over a week,  cutting up all that wood in your lovely home, not forgetting how ever long it takes to painting it.

Yes we provide free Quotes.

However for your initial enquiry, please  complete our enquiry form or send us a email with a brief and approximate measurements.

We will use this to provide you with the likely cost of your furniture.

If you are happy with our costings, we will be happy to arrange a home visit.

By selecting sound and high quality materials, and the appropriate paint finish, we ensure that the furniture we make for you will last a lifetime.

With extensive use of double panel construction, and Front Frame Face  together with attention to detail means we create a beautiful long lasting product.

Our painted Furniture can be repainted if you fancy a colour change, or if requires refreshing in many many years to come.

We have hundreds of satisfied customers.

Just look at our reviews on Google and Houzz.

Our process usually takes around 8 weeks from your order.

Fitted Furniture vs Built in Furniture

Honestly, there’s no official rulebook –  There’s essentially no difference today, it’s just how UK joiners have talked for years.

That said, traditionally the term “built-in” was used when furniture had a framework attached directly to the walls, with doors fixed on.

“Fitted” was more for wall-to-wall storage. But in modern workshops across Oxfordshire and beyond, the two have merged.

Most customers use them interchangeably, and so do we. What matters isn’t the label – it’s precise measuring, quality materials, and a design that will make the space look lovely.
